Hello, I would like to plant a some monkey puzzle trees in an agro-forestry permaculture system so that I can harvest the nuts 20 years down the road. Is there any way to tell young male and female trees apart before they produce cones? Is there genetic testing that can be done? How much would that be? Thank you so much:)

No way of telling visually before coning starts.

I've not heard of any genetic tests either.

So your best bet is to plant at a slightly higher density, and thin out some of the males later on when they start to get crowded.
