I have several dozens of these plants growing on my property in Illinois. I assumed that they were weeds until I saw my dog eating a lot of the berries. He did not get sick or die so I tasted one and it was sweet with a plumb like taste with several large seeds inside. The berries are hanging all in line along and under the stem and leaves. They seem good enough to eat and we will eat them if they are not poisen. Please advise

    Hi,

This plant is a Polygonatum. It could be one of two species, and to most easily distinguish between the two, I'd need to know if the plants have very fine hairs on the undersides of the leaves.

Despite the rough identification, your main question was whether they were poisonous or not.

The answer is mildly poisonous, causing vomiting and diarrhea.

    Best regards.
