I have had this cactus for approximately two months, the last two-three weeks the top has turned a light green color, lost its spines and is now working downwards towards the base. Is this good or bad? I think I may have overwatered it to start, but have cut back tremendously and now water it a minimum amount. I am new to caring for cactus and succulents and need some guidance, any advice is appreciated! :)

Does the container for the cactus have any drain holes in it? The soil should be able to drain freely.

Has it really lost its spines, or merely not grown new spines? This looks like classic etioliation, i.e. thin, weakly spined, light green growth, primarily due to a lack of light. Where has it been kept?
