A friend says equal parts Sunshine #4, steer manure, mushroom manure and good garden soil (sea?) is best, yes? Also, is sunshine #1 best for seed starts?

What is the purpose of the soil? Same with seed starts...depends on the species.

General gardening, if there is such a thing... at the moment I'm growing kale, chard, garlic, peas, beans, lettuce. Sunshine is an issue, only one small area, about ten sq feet, gets more than 6 hours of sun, the rest 5-6. Also somewhat new to this: season three
