Can anyone tell me if I can plant azaleas in full sun? Or do they prefer morning sun only, then shaded? I found 2 yellow azaleas I want to put out on each side of my sidewalk entrance (facing north) It is full sun, and I know I would need to work the soil to their liking. I watched a garden show that said Azalea's only like morning sun, and prefer shade. The garden center tells me they do fine in full sun. Can anyone clear this up for me? I am new to azaleas, and purchased 2 orange ones last spring, that are in a location where they only get morning sun, then shaded the rest of the day. They are just now showing budding. Too early to tell if they like it where they are. Thanks for any insight!
Azaleas will be fine in sun....you may have to irrigate though, Azaleas, like Rhodos, will languish in drought conditions.
Use a fertilizer that is labelled for Rhodos & Azaleas specifically, follow the directions, & don't fertilize after July 1.
in your zone, they should be just fine in full sun. DO make sure to prepare the soil properly and using some good food will be a benefit. azalea's are in the rhody family, so any fertilizer marked specifically azalea as well as anything marked for rhododendron will be fine.
