There certainly are (food) gardener's in BC, but not too many with a large productive garden like yours. I call my little beds in the back yard a tasting garden, because we just don't have the space to produce enough that we would ever store. I grew up on a farm in Ohio. We were able to grow so many things there. Most people in the Lower Mainland of BC have very little space. The climate does lend itself to some good gardening--especially cool season types--peas, kale, lettuce. Tomatoes, peppers and other heat loving plants can be a challenge. I may need to try harder and start veggies with cold frames and such, because the production in the Food Garden here at UBCBG is fantastic. People in the eastern part of the province have other challenges. I imagine irrigation is essential there.
