From Buchholz Nursery description - Acer palmatum 'Anna's Broom' Anna's Broom Japanese Maple Plant Description A small deciduous tree with purple-red foliage. Found as a witch's broom at the Red Maple Nursery and named in honor of a former employee. Prefers sun/partial shade in well-drained soil. Height and width unknown. Hardy to -20 degrees. USDA zone 5. A nice little red broom/ which lately I dont think I have enough of. I like the open leaves. It needs some sun to get any sort of red color.
