I love the japonicum varieties available today. The fall color along with the fresh spring leaf color and flower never fail to satisfy. Kent
Hello Kent, That is a beautiful tree. How old is it? I was just trying to research A. j. Fairy Lights today....and here it is. I am always on the go looking for full tree pics. Elle
I don't know how old it is. I have had it for about 2 years and have had it growing in this box since then. It came to me as a 5 gal. container tree. It is a wonderful tree. Thanks, Kent
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' When was this picture taken: January?, June?, October? Where is the plant located: New Zealand?, Seattle?, Norway? What is the plant origin: Esveld?, Mountain Maples?, Duncan & Davies? How old is the plant? It is too easy to search the web for pictures.... Gomero
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' The picture was taken: 26.5.2007 Location: Rein & Mark Bulk Nurseries, Boskoop, The Netherlands Acer palm. 'Fairlights' (?) 'An Australian selection with a multi-dissected form. Has a total lace like appearance. Light green in Spring and early summer with glowing gold and scarlets in fall. Leaves are more finely divided than 'Green Cascade'. Slow growing making only 3 feet in 7 years.'
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' My plant was named in the plural "Fairy Lights" but no matter...perhaps a transcription error. This photo was taken April 29, 2007. The best thing about this cultivar, in my mind, is the fall color. This tree exhibited yellow, gold, green, red, purple and orange all at the same time last October.
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' arnaut, is the excerpted description from the web site or catalog of the nursery where the picture was taken, or from some other source?
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' Does anyone know a reliable US source for 'Fairylight(s)". I see that Mountain Maples seems to have it, and they are extremely reliable in my experience but also pricey and on the other side of the country. Grateful for any referrals.
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' Try topiary gardens in upstate Ny. Diana is pleasant to deal with, and she has a wide selection. Her prices are resonable and so is the shipping. I have recieved over 135 different cultivars from her. Good Luck, Mike
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' Appreciate the lead Mike. I have checked Topiary site and a dozen japonicums are listed but not FL. I will send a message and mention your referrral.
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' I fully agree. here are some pics of the Fall colors of this cultivar taken in my garden. I also confirm that it is very slow grower. Gomero
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' A plant is on the way Topiary Gardens did have one. Thanks Mike. Is this plant really so extremely slow growing?
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' Poetry to Burn: Well, mine is certainly a slow grower. It's grown a very slight amount from 2 years ago, but hey, it's a great plant and I don't care. It has a great shape and the fall color is superb. Mapledia
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' Mine has been in the ground for 3 years and has grown about 25 cm or 10 inches during the period. Gomero
Re: Acer japonicum 'Fairy Light' Thanks for the info. My plant arrived today. Looks healthy, it was grafted in April and is very small. The graft had healed nicely. I potted it in my experimental biochar mix. I'll be sure to post pics and measurements in the spring. The tag on mine says "Fairy Lights" Happy Thanksgiving.
I thought I would add a photo of my baby Acer japonicum ' Fairy Lights', in it's first Autumn with me in 2019. So very glad I bought this one. It has been kept in a pot in a sheltered position but had morning sun. There so many colours in the Autumn leaves it has to be seen to be believed. It is the favourite of my eldest daughter out of all my maples.
August 18th 2020. Almost looks like Spring and Autumn at the same time in my garden. So strange, but a nice strange if you get my meaning. Well it's getting ready for the amazing show that my Fairy lights gives. Handled the heat very well this year.
All the colours are appearing now on all my maples and as promised I will keep the photo diary going to show the transformation. So much rain now and new growth, the new shoots are loving this weather at last. So exciting, the colours are appearing on my Fairy Lights, a little early I grant you, but August 23rd photo is not too early !!!?
27th August 2020 the winds have died down at last. Some suffered more than others. The reds are starting to appear everywhere on my Fairy lights now. A bit early, but no complaints here.
