Are y'all wanting clues on the remainder?

Here's the updated key - you've only got 4 left! I grant that 17 and 20 are toughies, but the other two are more common.

Thanks - I did say at the outset that I didn't expect anybody to get #20 - it's one sepal of a much larger flower.

I don't think we even have dogwood down here....

the fact that you expect 20 to not get id'd is what will spur me on to prove you wrong ;) lol (i like a good challange).

i did locate 17 - was focusing on another item though and left that window open while i finished up and then ended up closing the window out by accident...

I can't remember what has been guessed for 18, but is it in the family Lamiaceae?

    I think 18 is Fabaceae... (17, 18 look a bit familiar, but I don't know... grrrrr... :(((
    19. some orchid... :(
    20. Amazing... not familiar... but I'm guessing: Malvaceae?

18 is indeedy a member of the legumes,
19 is also indeedy an orchid,
20 is not Malvaceae. It's from a bigger family than that.

I'll placate you a bit, Lila, and give you slightly whole-er pics for #17, #18, and #19. It should make IDing #17 easier, but if you can't figure out #18 (so common here!) with its leaves attached, then shame on you.

I'll also grant that #19 and #20 belong to the same family, but I'm not showing you any more of #20 until you've got the other three...

And congratulations, all who are playing - this is the longest-running stumper in the history of the stumpers!

17 - YUP. I was only looking for the family (Commelinaceae), but that's the genus and species as well. Extra super purple points to Lila!

Blue Ginger, for those of you keeping track. That one was tougher that normal, since the raceme was well advanced and had started to produce berries. Really tasty root, though.

18 - close enough: it's actually Dalea coerulea. D. azurea is restricted to South Africa, while I can't seem to get all of the D. coerulea out of my lawn.... silly stuff is almost as bad as milkvetch in Canada.

2 plants down, 2 orchids to go! Here's the updated key - once somebody pegs the genus for #19 I will give you a larger picture of the flower from #20.

Shoot, tropical, I was only looking for Genus. It is (I believe) an Epi, but I don't actually know the species, point of fact. So, purple points to you!

(ps I've checked on E. ibaguense, and this doesn't appear to be it.)

Here's the key to date, you lucky purple fans!

Here, also, is the full flower for #20 - congrats, plant fans.

DING DING DING! It's Encyclia for sure.

Although I'm not so certain about it being E. cordigera, since the colour's all wonky. Might be a hybrid. To me it looks more like E. hanburyi. Since I embarked on the whole shmoo wanting only the Genus for #20, Purple Points to You!!!!

A big hearty congratulations to all of you who played!!!!

If there are any of the flowers that you'd like to see in full, then please mention it to me, I'll be glad to oblige you. Thanks for making this the longest-running stumper on the boards.

I'll be back to stump again in honour of my 1000th post.
