'Kanzan' on 49th from Lancaster to Nanaimo. Photo taken on 49th at Elliott, standing in intersection looking west. And this concludes another power cherry scouting session with Wendy Cutler. Been to places in Vancouver I have never seen before. Thank you, Wendy. Any questions, see Wendy's map.
'Ichiyo' on Vivian Drive south of Brighton Place are blooming about the same time as last year (see posting #77).
Just checking on the 'Ito-kukuri', to make sure it's still here, only one other reported as this in Vancouver and two in Richmond. Not a good time of day for photos.
Two of the Somei-Yoshino trees along the south side of E. 41st Avenue, between Gladstone and Stirling, are starting to stir on March 26, 2020. Viewing for this Festival Favourite location should be very nice within a week.
The Somei-Yoshino trees along the south side of E. 41st Avenue, between Gladstone and Stirling are now at peak bloom, April 4, 2020.
Five Takasago trees mostly on the south side of 59th Ave. for one block going east from Dumfries, along the Masumi Matsui Greenway are in full bloom: There's also a probable Somei-Yoshino, which is done: There are also more Takasago trees along Vivian south of 49th Ave., but they're on the east side of the street, so that belongs in Killarney.
Ito-kukuri (2736 E. 54—south side, east of Wales) has started its bloom at April 14, 2020. "Bundled with thread" has also bundled itself with other things. Note the tulips at its foot and the "Hen and Chicks" cradled in its arms.
It is Kiku-shidare's lot to be overshadowed even in bloom. In this case by pink camellias and a pink Yae-beni-shidare, that is finishing its bloom in the same yard on north side of E. 51st, east of Wales at April 14, 2020.
The first Ichiyo tree along Vivian (at Brightwood) has started blooming at April 14, 2020. Accompanied by two young Shirotae.
These two Ukons on E. 47th, just west of Nanaimo Street and Nanaimo Park are in full bloom at April 14, 2020. Their branches seem to have become more pendulous with the years, making their dangling blossoms the most Ukon accessible.
Five Takasago along E. 59th, east of Dumfries, past peak bloom at April 16, 2020, looking surprisingly elegant for Takasago trees. Good trunks.
Shiro-fugen has been planted on Fleming street intermittently from E. 49th southward. This tree is at the NW corner of Fleming and E. 54th. Last photo has flower with both petaloid and leafy phylloids in the centre. At April 28, 2020.
Shiro-fugen on both sides of Lanark, north and south of E. 53rd. Prominent growth of fungi on one mature tree, where a major branch has been lopped off. In bloom at April 28, 2020.
This mature Shiro-fugen at the NW corner of E. 51st and Lanark has a graceful trunk that looks low-grafted. Too bad insects have chewed so many holes in its leaves. In bloom at April 28, 2020.
