Hi, this is my first post so hello to everyone. I'm in the UK but the fruit in the photos has been sent to me by English man who lives in Bulgaria. The plant is in his neighbours garden The fruit has been described as non-native and edible and as having a 'nutty' texture and flavour, and reputed to be high in vitamin C. The owner of the tree is elderly and has a local accent that is difficult to understand. The name he uses for his tree, when translated, is 'mustard'. I do hope someone can help solve this mystery. Regards Blackstart
Hi and thanks for your reply. I posted here because I was invited to do so by a current forum member, also I believe that the forum encourages international posts. I'll see how it goes for a while but if no-one is able to ID the fruit I will try on a European forum. Regards Blackstart
I think I may have just found the answer, i believe it could be a Zizyphus spp aka Jujube. There are a few species that look similar. Regards Blackstart
Good find! The leaves look right in arrangement and veining. The bright red color may be helpful in determining which one. Ziziphus species are numerous and spread throughout temperate and sometimes tropical climes.
