    Hello firends,

In the summer 2012, I plan to build a wooden arch japanese bridge.

22 feet long to cross my stream.

The creek separates my land by 200 feet long. Around its banks to reach the other side of the creek was not practical.

I did not find anything on the internet to help me. So I share my project with you.

I am not at the point of building a arch bridge 太鼓橋 but have given it some thought as I am interested in Japanese joinery and Japanese woodworking.
I found this picture of the wooden timbers, joinery, and framework in the 5th and 6th photo very helpful:

I like how painting the frame black gives the illusion of it being much thinner as seen in the 4th picture of the finished bridge.

Hi Davethefish, just came across this, what a great project for a perfect Japanese garden. Just right for throwing some food from to your Koi fish. Very well done, 'Love it'

    Thanks,
It was one of those projects you think you can 'knock up' in a weekend...

but i underestimated the amount of joinery involved, then the concrete footings to support it.
it also took nearly as long to paint, as i painted the sections all round before assembly to make it waterproof.

ended up taking the best part of a couple of weeks a few hours a day.
