Four 'Shirotae' at 7151 Moffatt Rd (Venturi Pk). Blooming April 18, 2017. Three trees at the playground (pruned severely), and one more in the inner courtyard.




There are also 15 Autumnalis Rosea and 2 'Whitcomb' at the same location.

Good call! I am going to call the first one 'Shogetsu' - flatter flowers than 'Shiro-fugen' and fimbriate (fringed) petal edges, also green leaves and exceedingly long pedicels. I'm sure the "moonlight through pines" name is because those stems are so long they look like pine needles. Do you have a tree photo to add to the posting? Those flowers are so beautiful when they're still pink. They will be very white very soon.

Second one is Prunus avium, sweet cherry. Identifying characteristics are the reflexed sepals and the leaf margins that are rounded on the edges, not serrated, and they're uneven. I mostly use the leaf edges to identify it on rootstock growth where there aren't even flowers. Your first photo shows that very clearly.
There is a wide range of sizes of avium flowers - species trees can be very variable, particularly since many of them are seedlings, and some are cultivars.

Four 'Shirofugen' in attractive setting at 7435 Moffatt Rd. Inner courtyard.

 

'Ama-no-gawa' on southeast corner of Westminster Highway and McMillan Way (see previous postings #108 and #109).

There are at least 15 of them now, planted on the west, south and east sides of Goldbar Plaza - 20800 Westminster Highway.

In Steveston Village, on Chatham, east of 2nd Avenue - right at the bus stop are some very attractive 'Whitcomb' - blooming today.

 

A couple of 'Whitcomb' starting to bloom on the southeast corner of Railway Avenue and Steveston Highway.

 

Plethora of 'Pandora' on Jones Rd east of St. Albans. About 40% in bloom. Fragrant, even during the rain. Last year full bloom was April 2 (post #312), so I guess they're right on schedule.

 

'Accolade' just beginning to bloom at wooden bridge in Minoru Park. There should be some good photo ops at Minoru Park in the near future.

 

Spring Cherry( Akebono ) blossoms at South-East side of Minoru Oval Track, or west of the Aquatics and Arenas facilities. Flowers are lighter than in these photos. Background Red house in second photo is Minoru Aquatic Center.

This is a beautiful setting to observe cherry trees in Richmond. Very popular in good weather.
Tree on the left is 'Akebono', tree on the right is 'Accolade'.


You can see the difference in blossoms. 'Akebono' are single and paler. 'Accolade' are double and pinker.
