My poor little plant died recently and my GF and I are really sad about it. We want to buy a new one but we have no idea what it is.

The stem is about 7 or 8 mm in diameter and the leaves are cylindrical as well but a little bit smaller in diameter. It tended to curl a fair bit... Maybe just the lighting conditions in my home. Looks a bit like a succulent.

I can't see your photo but a couple plants came to mind:
    • Euphorbia tirucalli
    • Sedum rupestre 'Angelina'

    It's neither of those two.

It looks like a Senecio. Like most succulents, use a light, gritty soil, give lots of light, keep on the dry side, especially in winter.
