Two 'Umineko' sandwiching a 'Shirotae' on south side of Pendrell, east of Cardero. 'Umineko' flowers.
City Living. 9234 The rain drop hanging from the cherry bud reflects a condo typical of what many of us live in.
These things are so unruly this year. The first to bloom looking excellent at the same time as mid-season cultivars are out. I was assured as a young scout that these things would bloom in order, at least in the same neighbourhood.
Row of 'Snow Goose' in Ceperley Meadow, along bike path. Seventeen trees blooming, and one that is not.
One of my favourite 'Akebono' in the west end. Located on the south side of Beach, at Broughton. Always makes me smile.
In addition to the two on Cardero, there are two more young 'Yae-beni-shidare' at the same property. These two are on the south side of Burnaby, west of Cardero.
Well they are behind last year, but not by much. Buds showing on 'Amanogawa' at Kensington Place. View attachment 147946
These can be found on the North-West corner on Comox two trees down from the Comox/Gilford intersection. They are on or close to the trunk to eliminate the wind. I really liked the detail in this one. I saw the saw-tooth edges that I had missed. The wind has been a challenge. This shot is right on the trunk and that made it much easier to photograph.
'Takasago'. These run all along Comox, two or three trees on most blocks. On Pendrell, similar-looking trees are 'Mikuruma-gaeshi', with mostly single flowers up to 6cm across. I think they're only west of Denman now. Much nicer trees than the 'Takasago' were all cut down from Thurlow to Denman a few years ago.
There are two 'Sendai-shidare' on the north side of Comox, east of Chilco. This one in sunlight. And this one in shade.
Not only looking fine, but they look less diseased than in previous years. There is still brown rot all over them, but there are lots of spots on the trees where you can get a beautiful photo with no disease in the picture. You can; I've tried for two days and can't seem to get a sharp image. And the time is just about gone when the buds are almost red, opening flowers are pink and open flowers are almost white.
